Film Hinekura showing at Pink Caravan High Tea

Awarua Whanau Services will be screening Hinekura alongside our Pink Caravan visit and High Tea next Wednesday.

Hinekura is a short film that highlights wahine empowerment in a 1600’s setting. It tells the story of a young wahine's first steps into womanhood. Our tipuna celebrated the arrival of menstruation or waiwhero as part of our whakapapa and a connection to our Atua. Director Becs Arahanga’s vision for Hinekura is that it be “used as a resource for all indigenous peoples to be able to take back the ceremony”. This short film received two awards at the NZ International Film Festival including the Audience's Choice Award.

Venue: 190 Forth Street

Details: Wednesday 26th February the film is 17 minutes long and will run periodically from 10am
